The Vegas Recap: Day 2

Your eyes do not deceive you, I am finally posting Day 2 of my Vegas recap. If you haven’t read it yet, you can check out the recap for Day 1 here. Let me apologize for the photo quality in these posts. My camera was having technical difficulties, so I had to use my poor phone this entire day.

Our second full day in Las Vegas was Sunday, January 13 (holy crap, I really am wicked late huh?!). I set my alarm to get up early and get in a workout. I was determined to at least try and stay on track while in Vegas, so hitting up the hotel gym was part of that plan.

Hotel gym

I did a quick run on the treadmill followed by my first ever stepmill workout! I ended up spending around half an hour in the gym, which wasn’t too much overall, but pretty decent for Vegas!

While I was gone Joe went to get coffee so as soon as I got out of the shower post-gym I had a cup waiting for me. After coffee we went to New York, New York to get breakfast. The first place we stopped wasn’t serving breakfast anymore, so we hopped over to a little café area (which apparently doesn’t bear mentioning on the website) where I got two boiled eggs and a granola yogurt parfait.

After breakfast we were off to do more sightseeing, but not before grabbing our morning drinks that were the same as the day before. Then we headed out of New York, New York where I spotted this jellybean Statue of Liberty.

We weren’t too keen on paying to see a show on our limited budget (or sitting through a timeshare presentation) so instead we opted for a deal on activities. For a set price we were able to choose three MGM activities. Our choices were CSI: The Experience, Siegfried and Roy Secret Garden & Dolphin Habitat, and Mandalay Bay Shark Reef Aquarium.

With our tickets purchased (and learning that we didn’t have to use them all in the same day) we set off for more sightseeing and gambling making Day 2 really casual and low-key. On our way to the first activity we went through the Cosmopolitan for a quick gambling pit stop, where I was greeted with lots of sparkles.

sparkle!

The Cosmopolitan is so chic I even found a shoe bigger than me!

Cosmopolitan

After the Cosmopolitan, we went for our first activity – CSI: The Experience. It was fun, but probably would have been a lot more fun if Joe and I actually watched CSI. Yes, I know that’s kind of a fail on our part, but the walk through of a “crime scene” and comparing evidence was still fun. The only disappointing thing was that rather than have our certificates printed on site, we opted to have them emailed to us so we didn’t have to carry them around. We never got the email (boo!).

From there we wandered the strip a bit more, venturing into hotels and casinos we didn’t check out the day before. In our wandering we came across a guy offering free tickets to Pure nightclub. We had been trying to decide all day what we were going to do that evening, so we decided to take a shot on it. Joe gave the guy a tip and we crossed our fingers that the tickets were legit.

Then we tried to go to the Siegfried and Roy attraction, but found out it closed at 4pm so we were out of luck for the day! Oops. After that flub we headed to The Flamingo. Of course I got a photo of the flamingos at The Flamingo.

Flamingos at The Flamingo

We got a late lunch at Carlos’n Charlies (no, that’s not a typo, it’s how they write it) at The Flamingo as well. There wasn’t a lot to choose from as far as vegetarian goes, but I managed a vegetable burrito and a couple of margaritas.

The burrito was enormous and super good! The margaritas were, surprisingly, pretty small compared to all of the other drinks in Vegas. Oh well, you can’t win ’em all!

After lunch we decided to go back to the hotel and sleep before venturing out for the evening. On our way back to the hotel I snagged a photo of the strip because I honestly just love lights.

Evening strip

After our nap we got up and dressed for Pure. It was still freezing out, but as a Bostonian I pride myself on not letting that get in the way of a good time out. As we walked from our hotel to the tram that would take us to Caesar’s, we passed people all bundled up from the cold while I walked along in my dress with no coat and Joe wore a blazer. I looked at Joe and said, “You know you’re from Boston when…” Yep, we might be crazy.

Out to Pure

Once we got to Pure our tickets/VIP passes worked like a charm. Not only did we get to skip ahead in line, we didn’t have to pay anything to get in. Score! Once inside I started dancing almost immediately and it didn’t take Joe long to follow my lead. Joe isn’t much of a dancer, so I knew he was doing it for my sake. It was so much fun! There’s almost nothing I love more than dancing with Joe so I’m glad he’ll suck it up and dance with me when he knows it’s important to me.

At Pure nightclub

After a few hours of dancing we were wiped (what can I say, we’re getting old) so we grabbed a cab back to the hotel where we ordered pizza and watched Paul Blart: Mall Cop in our hotel room. We’re crazy partiers, I know.

So ended Day 2 in Vegas. It was very low key and centered primarily around bits of gambling and lots of roaming with no big hits to speak of (at least on my end, Joe did pretty well on day 2). With any luck the next time we go back to Las Vegas it will be warm enough to go to one of the rooftop bars. I hear they’re amazing!
