Hi, everyone! You probably already know that I had a half marathon today (I’ll have a recap for you tomorrow) so instead of posting, Susan (the winner of my very first giveaway) has written a review of the products she got to sample. Thank you, Susan!
I was thrilled to win the Raw Revolution giveaway from Fighting for Wellness. (Thanks Becki for hosting this!) It was just as I was beginning graduate school and would be moving from dining out often or having the leisure to cook an elaborate meal when I was home… to microwaving pre-made meals twice a day on the go, and hoping my fruit doesn’t get smashed in my backpack. The RawRev bars were the perfect snack for the start of school. The 210-240 calorie size was just right for a large snack on the go, and I felt great about it every time I ate it because of the ingredients. As I had been tracking what I’d eaten the past few months, I realized that I actually didn’t have to be as low-fat as I’d been trying to be, so the high fat content (~50%) was actually a welcome addition. Each one had a texture akin to a Larabar, like thick juicy fruit leather . I loved most of them, and if I see them in the store I’ll be sure to snag a few! One note is I didn’t get to try Coconut Delight because I sent it to my Foodie Pen Pal. I haven’t heard back from her yet to report unfortunately.
Golden Cashew. This one had such a creamy texture. I recently got cashew butter and it reminded me of that. It might be too mild for those who want a bolder flavor, but it was perfect for me.
Chocolate Crave. Hmm, I’m seeing that this one has cashews as a number one ingredient now… maybe I like it especially just because of that, but this one was excellent. The dates seemed to really pull out the fruity notes of the chocolate.
Heavenly Hazelnut Chocolate. I also tend to love hazelnuts – who doesn’t like nutella? – so I guess this one is no surprise! The words “decadent treat” flashed through my head. It seemed over-sweetened, my only caveat, tasting “diet-bar”y (you know, those bars that are filled with protein and nutrients but disguised with sugar to taste better. I do still eat those, but I don’t eat them for the taste.).
Chocolate Coconut Bliss. I usually don’t like coconut, but I loved this! The only reason this one isn’t a standout for me is I think I would need to be in a non anti-coconut mood. I clearly don’t have to be in a necessarily proc-coconut mood though! The coconut really melded with the other flavors.
Cherry Chocolate Chunk. I also didn’t really expect to like this because fake cherry flavors can be kind of gross, and I’m not familiar with other cherry’d things. This didn’t taste fake at all, and was very delightful! Again, I would just have to be in a non anti-cherry mood
To be fair, if someone offered them to me for free, I’d probably take them, but I wouldn’t buy them.
Chocolate Raspberry. This one fulfilled my fears of the Cherry one. The raspberry tasted fake, even though it isn’t. The sweetening also was a little too strong, giving it a “diet bar”y taste.
Almond Butter Cup. I *really* wanted to like this one. However, it was both too sweet and too salty, almost like a candybar when I wanted was something that tasted like it was good for me.
So that’s a wrap! Thanks again Becki and Raw Revolution – I’m thrilled to have gotten this chance!
