Personal Goals for 2013

Good morning, my friends! This one will be short and sweet.

It’s a cold morning here in Boston at 18 degrees and a wind chill of 7 (it’s even colder on campus, but I don’t even want to go there). Luckily my office is toasty warm and I got here early enough before my start time to share a few more of my 2013 goals with all of you.

My last post on goals was very fitness centered and while that’s true of most of my goals in general, I do have several for myself that are more work and school related. Without further ado, more 2013 goals.

If you figure out how to “leave work at work” let me know. I totally have a hard time disconnecting!

Yeah, it’s easier some days than others, but I think about my clients a lot.

I definitely went in the direction of non-fitness goals this year, although I only made 3! You are ambitious! :)

I think a lot of mine could have probably been combined and stated more generally (like get to work early, be present at work, and use my planner more efficiently could probably be stated as use time more efficiently), but I personally do much better with specifically outlined goals so I can’t take short cuts. :-)

I like the ‘leave work at work’ goal. Too often we are connected 24/7!

There is also a little technique you can use, if you have the courage that will almost guarantee the achievement of big goals and dreams. It is based on the idea of “social pressure”.

Think about this; let’s say you have a goal to lose a certain amount of weight or achieve some desired level of fitness. You can set the goal privately and tell yourself, “I am going to achieve this goal by August 1.” On the other hand, you can make the goal public by telling all of your friends and family what you intend to do and even give a date for your desired completion.

As soon as you take that goal public, you move into a different state of mind. No longer are you at the mercy of your own self-discipline (which has been tarnished by years of bad habits). Now you have a much more powerful force dictating your day to day actions and decisions.

Of course you precisely doing that by posting your goals on this page, but I’m writing this reply for the benefits of your readers :)
