Nutrition Q&A with Kim Kirchherr: Submit Your Questions!

I knew I would forget at least one announcement on Friday, there was just too much to tell you! Sure enough, I was reminded as I put on my Healthy Living Summit t-shirt last night that I had completely neglected to tell you some fun news related to the main sponsor of the Healthy Living Summit, Wild Harvest.

One of my favorite sessions at the Healthy Living Summit was the keynote with Genie Nicholas & Kim Kirchherr from Wild Harvest. They talked about recipe development and nutrition and left me with a ton of new information, particularly some staggering statistics related to how much people really know about the food they’re eating (hint: it may be a lot less than you think you know).

For instance, did you know that the daily recommended amount of sodium has changed from what it was a decade ago and that instead of 2300mg we are now limited to 1500mg of sodium per day? That sure makes you want to watch how much salt you’re shaking onto your food as you cook. This change is because the the daily recommendations and allowances are reexamined every five years to make sure we’re keeping up with what science knows. What else has changed that we don’t even realize?

With the holidays right around the corner it is important for all of us to know the truth about what we’re putting in our bodies. Unfortunately there is a ton of information out there, some of it not so reliable thanks to the funding source of the information, and it is a battle just to sift through it all. Thankfully Kim Kirchherr, the registered dietitian for Wild Harvest, is here to answer YOUR questions!

How do you get involved? I’m so glad you asked. Submit your nutrition and food-related queries to questions@fightingforwellness.com by 11:59pm EST next Monday, 10/22. Then be on the lookout for all of Kim’s answers at the beginning of November, in plenty of time for you to plan out your Thanksgiving spread.
