New Year, New You: Rob

Yesterday was quite the busy day with my 5-mile race, registering for my first full marathon, and then writing a 15 page paper, so in lieu of a post of my own today, I leave you with the second installment of New Year, New You.

I met Rob a year and a half ago at a wedding, but he has known Joe for many years (they used to work together). I have been excited to witness his transformation and was so happy he wanted to share it with all of you. He’s quite the jokester, which I’m sure you’ll notice toward the end. Without further ado, meet Rob!

Where are you (what stage) in your health/fitness/weight loss journey?

My goal was to lose 150lbs, I’ve currently lost 154lbs. I’m now trying to tone up by incorporating more weight lifting into my workouts.

What inspired you to make a change in your life? Did you have an ah-ha moment?

This is the 2nd time in my life that i have lost more then 100lbs. This time was more about getting health again.

What is your biggest accomplishment in your journey so far?

As I said this is my 2nd time doing this, the 1st time I was 22, this time I am 34. So far me my biggest accomplishment is the not letting my age hold me back.

What has been the hardest part in your journey so far?

For me hands down the hardest part was changing my eating habits.

What tools do you use to keep you accountable?

I know they say you shouldn’t do it, but for me weighing myself everyday is the way to go in the 1st few months of dieting. These days I’m stepping on the scale 3 time a week.

Who are your biggest sources of support?

My friends…everyone has been soooo supportive.

Do you stay physically active? What is your favorite way to exercise?

From Jan-May 2012 I was going to the gym 9 times a week doing just cardio, 7 days a week for 1hr then Tuesdays and Saturdays I would go a 2nd time for 40 more mins. From May-Sept 2012 I was going to the gym 6 day a week for 1hr of cardio. From Sept-Dec 2012 I was going to the gym 5 times a week doing 45mis of cardio and light weights. From Dec-currently I am going to the gym 5 times a week doing 30mins of cardio and have stepped up my weight lifting.  My favorite exercise is running intervals on a treadmill, I feel that its the best from of cardio.

Do you keep a food journal or use any websites to track your food? How about counting calories?

From Jan-May 2012 I kept a food journal, I found very useful in the early months of my dieting. I wish I had kept up with it. I don’t really count calories, but I do count protein. I make it a point to 60-80grams a day, and also 2 serving of each fruits and vegetables.

Do you have an ultimate goal?

YES! To look and feel as good as my buddy Joe! ;-)

What will you do to celebrate when you reach your goal?

Haven’t really thought about it, but most likely throw a party!

What is your goal for 2013, health or otherwise?

My new goal is to weigh 180 by May 2, 2013 but bulk up at the same time.
