Happy 30th birthday to me! Three decades strong.

It happened. Today is my birthday and as of 8:10pm I am 30 years old! Did I complete everything on my 30 Before 30 list? Am I feeling old yet? There’s only one way to find out (hint, it’s reading on).

30 Before 30

The closer my 30th birthday got, the quicker I realized that I wasn’t going to complete everything on my 30 Before 30 list. Some of it came down to poor planning and others I honestly just forgot about. That tells me a couple of things: I need to be a better planner and some of the things on the list didn’t matter as much as I thought they did.

That said, the past year has been pretty incredible for me. I ran the Boston Marathon with blue hair (two of my 30 Before 30 right there!). After that I got a new tattoo to commemorate the experience while a childhood friend was visiting me in Boston. Joe and I visited my best friend in Wisconsin over the summer and I started listening to some really great podcasts starting with the first season of Serial. To round out the things I actually did accomplish, I should add that I just sent my DNA off to be analyzed.

I don’t want to dwell on the things I didn’t do. Instead I want to take a minute to acknowledge the awesome things I didn’t even plan for.

Unexpected gifts from 2016

I took a risk with freelance! No, it wasn’t publishing the book like I had hoped, but it’s something! I’ve been doing much more freelance writing with both the Fix.com blog and The List. It’s been a really wonderful experience and I’ve been able to branch out into writing that isn’t typical for me. One of my favorite pieces so far is on Megyn Kelly. My most recent piece is about losing and regaining weight. Writing is definitely my life’s passion and it feels so good to be doing more of it.

I met some awesome celebrities. Seriously. My experience at this year’s Boston Comic Con was so amazing and I can’t wait to see who will be appearing this year. Go ahead, take all my money!

I got my nose pierced! This is something I’ve wanted to do for years and I finally took the plunge just last week.

I had originally hoped to get it done while I was in NC at Christmas, but things didn’t work out. Instead, Darcy at Chameleon Tattoo & Piercing in Cambridge did it and I love it! If you are looking for a piercer, check out Darcy!

These weren’t the only amazing things that happened this year, but they’re certainly some of the highlights.

Do I feel old?

Not even a little bit! I’m so excited to be 30 and even more excited to really celebrate this weekend. Though to be fair, I’ve been celebrating all week.

First up this weekend, I am marching in the Boston Women’s March for America on Saturday morning. I consider this part of my birthday celebration because it’s such an important cause. I’m marching so that, hopefully, the next generation of women won’t have to.

Then, on Saturday night, Joe is throwing me a birthday party! The theme is “Farewell to Becki’s Roaring 20s” and I can’t wait to share photos.

That’s it for me, for today. I have some fun blog posts planned for next week, so stay on the lookout. For now, I’m off to celebrate!

Keep fighting,
