CORE Defender and Warrior Meals {Review & Giveaway – CLOSED}

Have you heard of CORE Foods? If not, pay attention because you’re going to want to know this.

The people at CORE Foods are all about making portable food that isn’t junk.

The basic premise is that when food is real and in its raw form, it is incredibly healthy and most of the animal kingdom knows that. Most – with the exception seeming to be humans.

There are two lines of CORE Foods: Defender Meals and Warrior Meals. The Defender Meals are created under the model that the best human nutrition limits the emergence of disease. The Warrior Meals are created under the model that the best nutrition for human bodies maximizes growth, tone, and physical performance.

When the people at CORE Foods contacted me just before my trip to Vegas and offered to let me try a sample pack, I was super excited (I seem to always get sick after a trip so limiting the emergence of disease sounded good to me!).

My package arrived with ice packs and directions to keep the product cold, so I immediately put my CORE meals in the refrigerator. I had my first one the day before our flight to Las Vegas.

CORE Foods Raw Almond Raisin

The directions said to have each CORE meal with two full glasses of water, so I did. The consistency was chewy, but not tough, and all of the flavors tasted super fresh and real.

I liked it a lot! So much, in fact, I decided to have the second one before my flight the next day. I figured that would be a good test of the assertion that each bar accompanied by two glasses of water is equivalent to a full bowl of oatmeal.

CORE Defender plus water

I decided to try the Raw Cashew Cacao for my pre-flight meal because who doesn’t like to start Vegas off with chocolate?

CORE Defender Raw Cashew Cacao

I admittedly hadn’t paid a lot of attention to whether I stayed full the day before, so I was intrigued whether so few ingredients could keep me satisfied on my way to Las Vegas.

CORE defender ingredients

Surprisingly, I wasn’t nearly as hungry on my flight as I thought I would be. I had the CORE meal about 4 hours before our flight and then just before the flight I had part of a veggie burger in the airport (it was disgusting) followed by a small frozen yogurt. I figured I would be starving on the plane because I didn’t eat all of the burger, but between Boston and San Francisco (our connection) all I had was some sliced bell pepper. Not too shabby! The CORE meal actually did a much better job of keeping me full than a bowl of oatmeal normally does. Score!

My final CORE meal was before one of my late Friday night classes in January. I knew I would be in class from 6-10pm, so I had the bar in lieu of dinner.

CORE Defender Raw Walnut Banana

I love walnuts and I love bananas, so I’d have to say this one was probably my favorite. Since I had been in Las Vegas I had been keeping this guy in the freezer so I followed the directions for thawing at room temperature and it was fantastic! I generally worry about maintaining taste after freezing and thawing, but this was a very pleasant surprise.

Both the texture and flavor were incredible. Like the other CORE meals, it was dense enough to keep me full, but I didn’t feel like I had a brick in my stomach (which has happened to me with other high protein or high fiber bars in the past).

With the Raw Walnut and Banana as my top choice, I’d have to say that my second favorite was the Raw Cashew Cacao with the Raw Almond Raisin taking a very close third. They were all delicious and I felt good about putting them into my body (much better than most airport or airplane food, that’s for sure!).

Lucky for you, my friends at CORE Foods have offered to give one of you a sample pack of either the Defender Meals or the Warrior Meals!
