Thank you all for your advice on yesterday’s post about my foot problems. I took everyone’s advice to heart and decided to hold off on running again yesterday. The last thing I want to do is injure my foot further. Today’s agenda includes a trip to Marathon Sports to get them to check out my foot and recommend a more appropriate shoe. I really appreciate everyone’s candor and recommendations. Hopefully with a little attention I can get back on the road later this week.
On a happier note, I am LOVING my staycation. I have this week off from my internship, so I also took the week off from my other part-time job. I still have classes, but my days are totally free! I decided to take the week for a mental break to get my ducks in a row and take care of myself.
The biggest way I practiced self-care yesterday was to go to the Anthony David Salon in Burlington, MA for a haircut. I was extra excited because I had read in my research about the salon that they use natural hair care products from the shampoo and conditioner, to styling products and even the coloring they use!

Now I’m the type who usually just goes to the cheapest place I can find for a haircut, so I’m not used to actually feeling relaxed when I’m getting my hair done. As soon as I walked into Anthony David I was greeted with smiles by several employees and my coat was taken and hung up for me.
Then I was introduced to Jackie who was going to be taking care of me. She asked what I wanted and I just sort of sat there hoping something would come to me. I had looked at hairstyles several times over the past week, but hadn’t come anywhere close to a decision. She was super nice and didn’t mind at all that I had no idea what I wanted.
We talked a bit about what I do, what I want out of a haircut, etc. and I mentioned that I wanted something short, but still stylish. Something no-fuss and that wouldn’t drive me nuts while I run. She showed me several photos, talked to me about how I would style each look, and what I would need to do before a run to make sure I didn’t go crazy. Finally I decided on a look and Jackie got to work.
Throughout my haircut we chatted about the products, our boyfriends (sorry Joe), running, and just about anything you could think of. She finished in no time and I couldn’t have been happier!
I left with small sample bottles of the owner’s own brand of shampoo and conditioner to try out at home and walked out the door with a spring in my step. Getting a new look always makes me feel good, but I was over the moon with my new look.
I stopped by the grocery store afterward and even the insanely long lines couldn’t get me down. When I got home Joe said he really liked the new look. Of course I then started taking lots of photos to share.
I am IN LOVE! I’m not sure I have ever been so excited about a haircut before and my hair feels, looks, and smells amazing! I love that not only was the haircut the most efficient and stylish one I’ve had, the products are safe and I can feel good about having them on my hair.
The drive for me was close to half an hour with traffic, but it was SO worth it! I think I have found my new salon and stylist!
It was just what I needed to start this week-long staycation. I felt so motivated and excited when I got home. I felt refreshed. To say my haircut served its purpose of self-care would be an understatement. After all, wellness is about more than just fitness and nutrition.
I highly recommend the Anthony David Salon and hope you’ll all check it out the next time you need ANYTHING done to your hair. When you go, tell them Becki from Fighting for Wellness sent you!
I received my haircut from the Anthony David Salon at no charge, but all opinions are solely my own.
