A Local Halloween Workout & Other Exciting Updates!

Happy Friday, everyone! I have been out of blogging commission for a few days because I haven’t been feeling very well. I had to leave my internship early yesterday, which is something I had hoped I would never have to do. Sickness always seems to hit me right after I’ve completed a lot of commitments and finally start to slow down. Wouldn’t you know it then that I got sick right after my most recent half marathon and my parents went back to North Carolina? It just wouldn’t be my life if I hadn’t gotten sick.

To make up for all of the days I’ve missed, today is full of announcements and updates! First, you may have noticed a brand new badge on my blog starting a few days ago. I have officially been chosen as a Girls Gone Sporty Ambassador!

Girls Gone Sporty Ambassador Badge

What is Girls Gone Sporty, you ask? It is a community dedicated to helping women live the sporty life.  My favorite thing about it is that the “sporty life” is not just about fitness. It is about being your “best and most positive self” in fitness, nutrition, work, play, and life as a whole. From their website:

“Our focus is to develop a network of sporty women who band together to create a contagious spirit of adventure and enthusiasm for life to those around them. Studies have shown two things: 1) healthy living is contagious, and 2) healthy living is not just about weight loss. While we recognize that achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is important, weight and appearance are not cornerstones of our belief system, and we want to encourage women everywhere to embrace whole health and an attitude of adventure – body, mind, spirit and lifestyle – right where they are now.”

This fits in perfectly with the mission of Fighting for Wellness and I was super excited to find out about the program thanks to Danielle who is also an ambassador. If you’re interested in applying, fill out the online application.

The second announcement is primarily for my local readers. You all know about my love for Ultimate Bootcamp so I was excited when they contacted me to tell me they are hosting a Trick or Treat workout on October 27th! Here are the details:

How fun is that? If you’ve never tried Ultimate Bootcamp this is a great opportunity to test it out and see if it’s a good fit for you. You can expect at least a little bit of this:

If you can imagine working your butt off in costume, this should be amazing! Man I love holidays. Let me know if you’re planning to go and hopefully I’ll see you there.

Finally, a quick update on all the October challenges!

Coffee vs. tea: I have definitely cut my coffee consumption down thanks in part to my awesome Foodie Pen Pal box from last month and all of the tea I received. I am still drinking at least one cup a day, but not nearly as much as I was over the past few months.

Courtney’s Yoga Challenge:

Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life

I have LOVED getting more yoga into my routine. I have noticed that getting the breathing right is one of the biggest challenges for me and I hope that by the end of the month I can see improvement in that as well as my flexibility, strength, and posture. We have some free On Demand yoga workouts that have been perfect for this. Plus, even when I’m sick (like now) they aren’t too high intensity that I back out. Love it.

Leaf Negativity Behind:

Frankly, this has been a lot easier to do now that I’m doing more yoga. I’m not sure if it’s because I feel more zen-like overall or whether it’s because I just have more time in the day to reflect on the positive things in my life, but focusing on the positives has been an amazing experience. The thing that I’d like to celebrate today is that I’m not beating myself up for not blogging or working out as hard for the past few days. My body needs a little more rest now that I’m not feeling well and I’ve been giving it just that. It’s a great feeling to give your body what it needs. #AmazingMe #LeafNegativityBehind

The #plantPOWER challenge:

I have loved this challenge so far. I haven’t been great about taking photos of all of my food, especially when my parents were in town, but I have a great one for my #powerdinner tonight and I can’t wait! Just a hint: it’s creamy, vegan, BRIGHT and perfect for a chilly day. Seeing all of the photos on Instagram and Twitter for the #plantPOWER challenge has also given me inspiration for future vegetarian dishes and I am feeling much less overwhelmed about not eating meat. I did give in and buy some fakin’ bacon (sorry, I can’t help but call it that, it’s officially soy bacon) and some tofurkey for lunch sandwiches, but otherwise I’m focusing more on beans and tempeh rather than trying to have fake meat.

think that’s it for today’s announcements, but a lot has been happening and I may have missed a few. What’s going on in your life lately? Are you challenging yourself to anything in particular this month?

so many announcements! I think it’s pretty cool you are embarking on all these challenges this month! I haven’t been doing the plantpower one, but I wish I was because it looks awesome, and I am always trying to eat more veggies. I am doing the yoga one and I too am enjoying a new zen outlook. :)
